Find out your curl pattern!

I have natural curly hair. It has taken me on a true hair journey. I have tried so many different products. However, I know how I like my hair to look and feel. My preference on how I like my hair to feel is soft and moisturized. I have found that certain products work best on particular curl shapes. I am happy that I have found wonderful products that enhances my curl patterns. 

It is helpful to know what type of curl pattern or shape one has. The following are examples of different curl patterns. There are certain product companies that tell you which products are for what curl patterns. Some examples of curls patterns are 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b, 3c, 4a, 4b, and 4c. 

Type 1s are straight hair. Type 2s are wavy hair. Type 3s are curly hair. Lastly Type 4s are coily hair. The sub-classifications of A to C are based on the width or diameter of your wave, curl, or coil. Type As have a wider pattern size, Type Bs medium, and Type Cs the smallest of the three (Anthony Dickey, 2024).

Why Knowing Your Curl Pattern Matters

Understanding your curl pattern isn’t just a fun fact; it’s crucial for hair care! Each curl type needs unique products and styling techniques. If you use the wrong shampoo or conditioner, you might not see the beautiful results you crave.

For instance, curly and coily hair types may benefit from heavy creams that enhance curl definition, while wavy hair might need lighter sprays to hold the shape without weighing it down.

My hair is a mixture of two curl patterns. In many cases, depending on the weather, and what type of products I use in my hair. My hair will have a 3c or 4b curl pattern. Some people have more than one curl pattern.
